Decarbonising communities and businesses workshops – be part of the action

Residents, community groups and businesses are being offered the free opportunity to attend workshops in Skipton offering help and advice on cutting carbon emissions and making savings on energy bills.

Alongside the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, North Yorkshire Council is running a number of workshops to co-design the following programmes:

  • building capacity for community climate action including project development, management support and funding for feasibility studies
  • place-based programme for sites such as business parks or industrial units including technology feasibility assessments, decarbonisation plans and capital grants for low carbon measures
  • net zero and reducing energy bills – wrap-around support to enable businesses to reduce their carbon emissions including low carbon diagnostics, specialist consultancy support, energy and resource audits, capital grants for purchases or premises adaptations

Progress on energy efficiency too slow – action now to avoid climate breakdown

We know the benefits by making homes more energy-efficient, warmer homes and lower energy bills to name but two. Yet the pace of upgrades has stalled in recent years, leaving almost two-thirds of UK homes in need of better insulation. That’s why the report by the UK Business Council for Sustainable Development that calculates that the pace of the new government insulation scheme, announced last week as part of a wide-ranging energy security strategy, would take almost 200 years to reach the homes in need of upgrading.  It’s an urgent wake up call to government to reverse its poor record on heating homes. The news comes eleven days before thousands will gather in London to take part in four days of action to protest over the UK government’s failure to act on the climate crisis.
