Planning revolt forces U-turn

The government is set to revise its proposals for controversial planning changes in England, after new housing targets prompted a backlash amongst some senior Conservative MPs according to the BBC’s news web site. We reported some of the criticisms in our posting on 10 October at: http://acesettleandarea.org/government-changes-to-planning-laws-face-serious-criticisms/

Ministers have proposed updating the formula for where to build houses to meet its aim of delivering more homes. But some said the “mutant algorithm” will fail to “level up” the North and see the South “concreted over”.

As previously reported, critics of the changes included former Prime Minister Theresa May. who said that the new formula did not guarantee a single extra home being built.

As reported by Edward Malnick in the Sunday Telegraph, the government is now looking at redesigning the formula so it is “fairer” and revised plans are expected to be announced within weeks.
