A Dales project to remove redundant plastic tree guards and plant more than 7,000 trees to trial alternatives has been shortlisted by the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) to receive funding it was announced yesterday.
The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has been leading the debate nationally on the use of plastic in woodlands – and winning this funding would allow them to put practical work into action. They have supported the planting of 1.5 million trees since 1996 and this project would help to completely transform how the next 1.5 million are planted.

❤️ THANK YOU, this is absolutely amazing news and we thank everyone who voted to make our #PlasticFreeWoodlands project become a reality. Helping the people, landscape and wildlife of the Dales and surrounding areas is what we do – but we couldn’t do it without our wonderful supporters and everyone who helped us win this funding! ❤️
