The Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg says she does not plan to attend the UN climate conference due to be held in Glasgow this November. She is concerned about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on attendance at COP26 and believes the summit should be postponed. Greta says the UK government, which is hosting the summit, should wait until global vaccination rates have risen.
The summit will bring together world leaders with the aim of agreeing a plan to tackle climate change.
However, the campaigner said she did not rule out reversing her decision if vaccine access improved.
“Of course, I would love to attend the COP 26. But not unless everyone can take part on the same terms,” she said.
Although it is understood she would not play a formal role at the conference, her decision not to attend would be seen as a significant symbolic moment for the conference.
