ACE’s first Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place via Zoom Saturday on 12 September from 10.45am. It will receive a report on our work and activities so far and plans for the coming period. The meeting will also be asked to approve a constitution and elect officers and members to the steering group. It will also receive reports from our various working groups. Only ACE members can vote at the AGM.

XR Bank Holiday weekend of national actions

Extinction Rebellion (XR) has called on activists to ‘flood the streets’ this weekend in a series of mass-gatherings. A four-day ‘regional rebellion’ from today until Bank Holiday Monday will see protests across the UK, including in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol and London, It is encouraging protesters to take local action targeting the aviation sector, banks, the fossil fuel industry and petrol stations.

The world is still in denial’ Greta Thunberg

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg met with Chancellor Angela Merkel yesterday (Thursday) urging her and other leaders to “treat the climate crisis like you treat any other crisis.”

“What we want is leaders. We want people to step up, to dare to step out of their comfort zones, to prioritize the future ahead of the now,” Thunberg told reporters after the 90-minute meeting.

SSE vows to produce ‘Just Transition’ plans to bolster science-based climate targets

SSE, an energy company based in Perth, has become the first UK energy firm to commit to developing ‘Just Transition’ plans, which will protect affected workers and communities as it aligns with the UK’s net-zero target. It employs more than 20,500 people, making it one of the ‘big six’ energy firms in the UK.
