UN Stockholm conference calls for urgent action

Stockholm 3 June 2022

Hundreds of speakers attending Stockholm+50 have called for real commitment to urgently address global environmental concerns and for a just transition to sustainable economies that work for all people.

The two-day international meeting concluded (3 June) with a statement from co-hosts Sweden and Kenya, drawn from Member States and other participants through the meeting’s plenaries and leadership dialogues. The statement contains several recommendations for an actionable agenda, including, among others, placing human well-being at the centre of a healthy planet and prosperity for all; recognising and implementing the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment; adopting system wide changes in the way our current economic system works, and accelerate transformations of high impact sectors.

Local Energy Plan for Settle and district

The potential development of renewable energy schemes in and around Settle was looked at during a workshop facilitated by Action on Climate Emergency (ACE) Settle and Area’s Energy Group on 21st May 2022 to take the first steps in drawing up a comprehensive Local Area Energy Plan.  Following the showing on 22nd March of the film “We the People” a survey of those attending indicated strong support for a wide range of renewable energy technologies in our district with the emphasis on solar and wind power as well as anaerobic digestion and heat pumps, with community ownership of installations being the most popular means of implementation.
