Earlier this year, health workers and students in Leeds took action to stop the expansion of the Leeds Bradford Airport. The action spread and articles were posted on this web site. Medact Leeds thanks all who helped to push the government to review the decision.
The campaigning group continues to organise for health and climate justice. To start this off, we are excited to invite you to an online event on Thursday 1st of July, 7pm – 8.30pm. We will be discussing the Health for a Green New Deal campaign and developing plans for further local actions in Leeds. We look forward to seeing you there and building a thriving community of people involved in health and social care in Leeds! Many of the ideas discussed are likely to be of interest to us here.

The UK government is failing to protect us from the increasing risks of the climate crisis, from deadly heatwaves to power blackouts, according to a report from the Climate Change Committee (CCC). The Committee is an independent, statutory body established under the Climate Change Act 2008. Its purpose is to advise the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets and to report to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for and adapting to the impacts of climate change (see https://www.theccc.org.uk/ ).

The Government has asked a group of experts to set up a guide to what does and does not count as sustainable investment to crack down on companies trying to greenwash their activities.
A new Green Technical Advisory Group, (GTAG) will be chaired by the Green Finance Institute and made up of financial and business stakeholders, taxonomy and data experts, and specialist from academia, NGOs, the Environment Agency and the Committee on Climate Change.
